The Los Angeles Angels will take it slow with Jordan Walden

The Angels will likely take it slow with 22-year old righty starting pitcher Jordan Walden. Walden came into this season as the #2 rated prospect in the Angels’ system according to Baseball America. He started 13 games in AA-ball this year and he was 1-5 with a 5.25 ERA and a 1.68 WHIP. He needs to get better at missing bats as he allowed 72 hits in only 60 innings this season but he did whiff 57 batters showing that his stuff is there. There is no need to rush Walden to the majors.

Trevor Reckling is pitching well in the minors for the Los Angeles Angels

It’s too bad that 20-year old lefty starting pitcher Trevor Reckling has control problems or the Angels might give him a shot at the rotation. Reckling was the #4 rated prospect of the Angels coming into this season according to Baseball America and he’s been showing why. Reckling has started 20 games in A+AA ball this season and he is 8-5 with a 2.40 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. He has only allowed 95 hits in 120 innings this season but he won’t get a shot with the Angels until he improves his control as he has walked 58 batters. Still, the future is bright for Reckling.

The Los Angeles Angels aren’t happy with Nick Green’s progress

23-year old righty starting pitcher Nick Green was the #8 prospect in the Los Angeles Angels’ system according to Baseball America but he hasn’t looked like it in AAA ball this year. Green has started 19 games in AAA-Ball this season and he is 5-4 with a 4.98 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP. Green has not been missing many bats this season as he has allowed 119 hits and 21 homers in only 108.1 innings this year in AAA. Look for the Angels to possibly move Green in a trade at the end of the month if it helps them get what they think they need to make a run for the World Series.

Kendry Morales is swinging a good stick in AAA for the Los Angeles Angels

If the Angels aren’t going to give 1B Kendry Morales a legit chance at the major leagues they should just trade him and get something they need. The 25-year old switch hitting Morales has played in 45 games in AAA ball this season and he is 61 for 188 (.324 avg, .870 OPS) with 22 runs scored, 8 homers and 37 RBIs. Morales has only played in 1 game for the Angels this season and he is 0 for 1. The Angels should do themselves a favor and trade Morales while he still has a lot of value if they are content with letting him play in the minors.

Jason Bulger should get another chance with the Los Angeles Angels soon

Blogged under General, The Minors, Front Page, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Thursday 10 July 2008 at 4:36 pm

29-year old righty reliever is simply dominating AAA hitters so far this season and it should get him another look later this season by the Angels. Bulger has pitched in 24 games (0 starts) this season for the Angels and he is 2-0 with a 0.64 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP. Bulger has only allowed 17 hits while whiffing 48 batters in only 28.1 innings in AAA. Bulger wasn’t so lucky with the Angels this season as he worked in 5 games (0 starts) and he was 0-0 with a 7.94 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. The Angels should give Bulger an extended chance later this season to either prove that be belongs in the majors or if he’s a career minor leaguer.
