Matt Brown is scorching the ball in AAA for the Los Angeles Angels

The Angels should seriously consider calling up 3B Matt Brown when they need an infielder next time instead of Brandon Wood who is clearly overmatched at the major league level right now. The 25-year old righty swinging Brown did get a cup of coffee in the majors this season as he played in 5 games for the Angels and he was 1 for 13 (.077 avg, .231 OPS) with 2 RBIs. But, he has been on fire in AAA ball this season as his stats jump right off the page. He has played in 54 games in AAA this season and he is 79 for 222 (.356 avg, 1.102 OPS) with 51 runs scored, 16 homers and 45 RBIs. Brown could also be a nice trading chip for the Angels if they need something at the trade deadline.

Jordan Walden is off to a decent start in the minors for the Los Angeles Angels

20-year old righty starting pitcher Jordan Walden is off to a decent start in the minors this season. He has started 6 games in A-ball so far this season and he is 1-3 with a 3.03 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP. Walden is the #3 prospect in the Angels’ system according to Baseball America’s Prospect Handbook. They should take their time with Walden and make sure that he’s ready when he gets his chance with the Angels.

Terry Evans is ripping the cover off the baseball in AAA for the Los Angeles Angels

25 year old righty swinging outfielder Terry Evans is killing the baseball in AAA this season for the Angels. Evans has played in 95 games in AAA ball this season and he is 123 for 384 (.320 avg, .875 OPS) with 51 runs scored, 13 homers, 62 RBIs and 20 stolen bases. Evans would likely be the first outfielder recalled by the Angels if they needed one. He also has already played in 2 games this season for the Angels and he was 1 for 4 (.250 avg) with 2 runs scored, 1 homer and 2 RBIs.

Brandon Wood is having a tough season for the Los Angeles Angels

Baseball America has ranked Brandon Wood as their #1 prospect but he hasn’t looked like it this season yet. In 22 games in AAA ball, Wood is 34 for 149 (.228 avg, .715 OPS) with 18 runs, 5 homers, 21 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. Wood has also looked overmatched quite a bit this season as he’s whiffed 44 times already this season in the minors. Wood also played in 3 games for the Angels this season and he was only 1 for 11 (.091 avg, .182 OPS) with 1 run scored and 5 whiffs. Look for Wood to rebound somewhat this season as he’s way too talented to play like he is right now.

Nathan Haynes on fire in AAA for the Angels

Blogged under The Minors, Playing Well, Front Page, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Sunday 13 May 2007 at 12:31 am

28 year old lefty swinging Nathan Haynes is on fire with a bat in his hands. In 29 games, Haynes is 45 for 114 (.395 avg, 1.074 OPS) with 20 runs scored, 3 homers, 24 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. If Haynes keeps hitting like he is right now, the Angels might have no choice but to call him up at some point.
